- The Elderly: Our Seniors, Our Guides: Dr. Lauren has been advocating for the elderly for at least 10 years—well before she found herself having to make difficult decisions about care for those close to her. She has written extensively on the insidious forms of elder abuse that go unnoticed and unaddressed. In addition, Dr. Lauren has come up with a model of care in which, among other things, the elderly individual is involved in helping others who are less able, as well as play a role in our schools sharing first hand historic, political and lifestyle issues.
- 9/11 Victim Families:“For the families who lost loved ones, it is still just yesterday”. Dr. Lauren opened and ran a therapy and recovery camp for families that could no longer afford summer holidays and in which at least one member needed and wanted therapy. She still counsels victim relatives pro bono and remains an advocate regarding their financial and emotional struggles.
- Third World Initiatives: Dr. Lauren has helped set up and has worked in clinics in Uganda, the Sudan, South Africa and the Honduras to name a few countries in need of teaching and assistance.
- Returning Soldiers: When ND cannot or won’t pay, Dr. Lauren counsels soldiers and their families—pro bono if necessary— to assist the strangers that arise out of one member of a couple going to war to reunite as a family.
- AIDS/Anti-poverty: Dr. Lauren was one of the first to sign on and get involved in President Bill Clinton’s “fighting global poverty” initiative, as well as his successful work toward controlling the spread of AIDS in African countries.
